The Tarek Touch: 5 SoCal Homes Rehabbed by Flip Guru Tarek El Moussa

Tarek El Moussa (along with his ex-wife, now Christina Anstead) transformed dumpy properties into sought-after show pieces—and made some sweet, sweet cash—on “Flip or Flop.” After the popular show’s premiere in 2013, both El Moussa and his former spouse went on to become HGTV stars—and have since split and struck out on their own.

The telegenic duo have kept “Flip or Flop” going, but now, both are starring in their own spinoff shows. In 2020, Tarek will star in “Flipping 101 With Tarek El Moussa.” Even when the camera crews aren’t around, El Moussa maintains a flourishing house-flipping business. His new show allows him to mentor aspiring house flippers and show them the ropes of the competitive business.

Right now, El Moussa has five homes in various stages of the flipping process. All have been rehabbed by his team, and you’ll notice most have similar distressed laminate flooring and jolts of happy tile mosaics. The other common element? They’re all contemporary, reasonably affordable family homes across Southern California.

The backyard has been newly landscaped and has a pool with new plaster and plenty of room for entertaining a crowd.

Price: Sold this week for $710,000

Long Beach lovely: This three-bedroom, two-bathroom bungalow was entirely revamped. Originally built in 1949, the nearly 1,400-square-foot home was outfitted with distressed wood-laminate flooring, a new open kitchen with new white cabinets and quartz countertops, trademark mosaic tile finishes, a newly landscaped backyard, and a concrete deck for lounging. Tarek’s finished product landed on the market back in January for $779,900, and he took a hit on the asking price to seal a deal.

The home is now pending sale, and its price was cut a couple of times after debuting on the market for $1 million in late May. New distressed laminate flooring makes the interiors modern and easy to care for. The home’s new kitchen has new white Shaker cabinets, there are new bathroom vanities, and the home’s roof, HVAC system, and landscaping are all brand-new.

The interiors haven’t received the same overhaul as the other Tarek properties we spotted. But the home does have a new coat of paint, an open kitchen, and a fireplace. It’s already pending sale after just a couple of weeks on the market.
